Remembering

It is a cool November morning,
The month it all began,
And we stand along the roadways,
To watch our Veterans.

We see them in our cities,
And our smallest village streets,
As we stop in reverence and listen,
To the sound of marching feet.

They march in stark remembrance,
Of those who with medals do adorn,
And also to the memories,
Of those to whom they now do mourn.

These Veterans don’t feel special,
Just men and women of all ages,
But they all donned a uniform and served,
So left their marks on history’s pages.

From the Army and the Navy,
Air Force and Marine,
All dressed in splendid uniform,
Marching like an oiled machine.

Perfection is their trademark,
In everything they do,
Today it is remembering,
All those who served for you.

Remember these, our Veterans,
As you see them side by side,
For they’ve given of themselves freely,
And served us with much pride.

For tomorrow might bring another day,
Just like has been before,
Today they marched along the streets,
Tomorrow, they’re at war.

Pray we will see them next year,
As another November wind does blow,
But we know if it is called of them,
They will simply not say NO.

They’ll take our flag and raise it,
Then watch it as one sees,
Fight for all it stands for,
As it flutters in the breeze.

Twelve months have now passed onwards,
Another year has passed us by,
Some Veterans from last year are with us,
And some did sadly die.

It is a cool November morning,
The month it all began,
And we stand along the roadways,
To watch our Veterans.

From Psalm 91

He that dwelleth in the secret place
of the most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord He is my
refuge and my fortress: my God;
in him will I trust.
